1 Militant Killed in Budgam Encounter- Police

A militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter that raged between militants and government forces at Gund Checkpora of Kanipora area Nowgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday morning.

Officials said that one militant has been killed as his body has been recovered from the encounter site as the search operation is still underway.

The identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.

The official said that a joint team of army’s 50 RR, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Gund Checkpora area of Kanipora, Nowgam late last night.

An officer said that as the joint team intensified searches at around 3:15 am, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate fire and hurled a grenade.

The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

The Police said that Incriminating material including arms & ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.

They added that, with the efforts of police and security forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the exchange of fire.

Meanwhile the police requested citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in this Central Kashmir district.
