At least 105 Militants have been killed during 48 encounters that raged between Militants and Government Forces in various parts of the Kashmir valley, however the major encounter that took place in the valley was on 23 May 2019, when prominent militant commander, Zakir Rashid Bhat alias Musa was killed.
The security apparatus across the Kashmir valley considered the killing of Zakir Musa as the “biggest blow” to Kashmir Militancy. One of the official said that, “The killing of Zakir Musa will impact Militancy in a huge way.” On condition of anonymity a top security official said that Burhan Wani’s killing boosted Militancy, but Zakir Musa’s killing will stop Militancy.
As per data available to The Kashmiriyat, 105 Militants have been killed which includes two Militants from the Militant outfit, Hizb ul Mujhaideen who were killed during an encounter conducted jointly by 44 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police in Dragad area of Zainapora.
Figures available to us suggest that thirteen encounters have taken place between militants and forces in the Month of Ramadhan, killing twenty-one militants mostly locals, three Army men were also killed in two separate gunfights.
