107 Structures Damaged During 108 Encounters in 2018- Full Report

The year 2018 has been one of the bloodiest year since a decade as at least 470 people were kiled during the year. A total of 245 Militants, 150 civilians and 84 Government Force personnel were killed during the year, as per figures available to The Kashmiriyat.

A total of at least 107 structures have received partial or been completely destroyed during 108 encounters that raged between Government Forces and Militants in the Kashmir valley during the last year.

The Kashmiriyat throughout the year has been maintaining a record of the major happenings including the civilian, Militant and the killing of Government Force personnel. We have also maintained a record of the property damaged during the year in various gunfights that raged between Militants and Government Forces throughout the year.

The Southern Kashmir districts saw the maximum gunfights, The Pulwama District witnessed at least 22 encounters raging between Militants and Government Forces while in Shopian districts at least 17 gunfights, Kulgam saw seven gunfights while the Islamabad (Anantnag) district witnessed 12 encounters raging between Militants and Government Forces.

On Jan 24, in Chaigund Shopian, two militants namely Sameer Ahmad from the same Chaigund village who was active just for the last four months and another from a nearby village, Firdous Ahmad from Ganowpora Shopian, who was active since 2016 summer unrest were killed. Both the slain militants were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen. The encounter caught in a two-storey residential house which was razed to the ground during the gun-battle. As per figures available to The Kashmiriyat, 12 civilians and 13 Militants were killed in January.

On 12th February, the residential houses of two brothers Bashir Ahmad and Nazir Ahmad, both engineers were damaged in an encounter at Karan Nagar area of Srinagar. On the same day two houses and one cowshed was damaged in Khudpora Shopian, as per figures available to The February month saw the killing of 6 Militants and six civilians.

On 16 March, three houses belonging to to a poet Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, known by his pen name ‘Madhosh Balhami’ and his sister were damaged during an encounter between forces and Militants in Khanmoh area. Three Militants were killed here. The month as per figures available to The Kashmiriyat saw 12 civilians and 22 Militants being killed.

As per stats available to The Kashmiriyat, On ist April, in two separate encounter at Kachdoora and sugan dragad, three houses were damaged in Kachdoora and two houses were partially damaged in sugan. 11 militants, 4 civilians and 3 army men also got killed during two encounters, another house was damaged in an an encounter in Dialgam area of South Kashmir, 1 Militant was killed here. On 11 April, four houses were damaged in an encounter between Militants and Government Forces in Wani Mohalla of Khudwani in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, four civilians were killed here and Militants managed to escape from the site of encounter. One house was damaged during an encounter between Government Forces and Militants in tral area of South Kashmir on 24 April, Two Government Force personnel and four Militants were killed. On April 30, a house was damaged during an encounter between Government Forces and Militants in Drubgam area of Pulwama. Sameer Tiger was killed here alongside his associate. 18 civilians and 20 Militants were also killed in April as per figures available to The Kashmiriyat

3 May, two residential houses and two cow sheds were damaged after a brief exchange of fire in Turkawangam however militants managed to escape from the spot. On 5 May, another house was damaged during an encounter between Militants and Forces and Militants at Chatabal area of Srinagar. On 6 May in Badigam four militants including were killed in a two storey house which got completely damaged during the encounter, Saddam Padder was killed here along his associates including a professor from Kashmir university. On 17 May, one house was damaged during an encounter. on 12 May, the house of Bashir Ahmad Bhat in Pulwama was set ablaze by forces, Militants managed to escape from here. 18 Militants and  were killed in the month of May, 14 civilians were also killed in May.

On June 22, three residential houses were damaged in an encounter in Sirigufwara area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district. four affiliates of IS Kashmir and two civilians were killed here. 24 June, one house was damaged during an encounter in an encounter in Chadder Bhan area of  Kulgam district, a top commander of Lashkar e Taiba was killed here, On 29 June, a house was damaged in Thaman area of Pulwama during an encounter in which one Militant was killed. 11 civilians including top Journalist, Shuja’at Bukhari were killed in June, As per figures available to The Kashmiriyat, 25 Militants which included a healthy number of foreigners were killed that month.

On 10 July, the house of Mohammad Yoquob Parray, son of Mohammad Ramzan Parray, a resident of the Kundalan got damaged during encounter at kundulan in which two militants were killed, on 21st July, three residential houses were damaged in an encounter at Khudwani, three Militants were killed here, on 24 July, a house in Lal chowk area of Islamabad (Anantnag) township received damaged during an encounter in which two Militants of Lashkar e Taiba were killed. As per figures available to The Kashmiriyat, 11 Militants and 10 civilians were killed.

On August 02, Two Militants and one trooper were killed in a gunfight that raged between Militants and Government Forces at Behrampora area of Sopore in  North Kashmir’s Baramulla District, one house was damaged during an encounter. On 03 August two residential houses got damaged during encounter at kiloora shopian in which 5 militants were killed. On the same day, one house was damaged in an encounter that raged in Gadol area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) encounter, one Militant affiliated with Hizb ul Mujahideen was killed here.On 08 August, one house received damage during an encounter in Rafiabad. On August 13, a house was damaged during an encounter in Batamaloo Srinagar, Militants managed to escape. On August 28, a house was damaged during an encounter in Muniwar area of Khanabal in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district in which the longest surviving militant, Altaf Ahmed Dar was killed along with his associate, the data available to The Kashmiriyat reveals. 25 Militants and seven civilians were killed in the month.

On 2 September, a house received damage in Laddi locality of Imam Sahib in south Kashmir’s Shopian district during an exchange of fire, Zeenat ul Islam Managed to escape from the encounter site, On 11 September,  two militants killed in a gunfight with Government forces on Tuesday in Galoora area of Handwara area of Kupwara, a house was damaged during an encounter. On 15 September, two houses were damaged in an encounter with Forces in Czowgam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam District, five Militants were killed here. On 21 September One house was damaged during an encounter in Sumblar area of Bandipora. On 27 September, a mosque was damaged during an encounter in Chadoora Budgam. Seven civilians and 31 Miliants were killed in the month.

As per figures available to The Kashmiriyat, On 11 October, one house received partial damage during an encounter at Handwara, Kupwara district.  One Militant was killed in an encounter in Babgund area of Pulwama, one house was damaged. On 17 October, two houses were damaged during an encounter in Fateh Kadal, Mehraj Bangroo, a known Militant was killed here. On 20 October. three Militants were killed in an encounter with Forces in Laroo area of Kulgam, one house was damaged here, seven civilians were killed in an explosion. On 24 October, one house was damaged in an encounter with Forces in Srinagar’s Nowgam area. Two Militants including Dr. Sabzar were killed here. On 25 October, four Militants were killed in Arwani area,one house was damaged during the encounter. On 30 October, one house was damaged during an encounter in Chanikater in Tral. As per figures available to The Kashmiriyat, 13 Civilians and twenty four Militants were killed in the month of October.

On November 03 in Khudpora area of Shopian a residential house got damaged during encounter in which a militant and a civilian were killed. On Nov 05 and Nov 17, two residential houses minor damages at Safanagri and Reban areas of district in which four militants jointly. On 9 November, Tikken, Pulwama district saw an early morning gunfight, one house was damaged here. On nov 19 in nadigam a two storey residential house got damaged during encounter in which four militants were killed. On Nov 25, two houses were damaged in Batgund area of shopian during encounter in which six militants were killed. On the same day, In Authoora, Baramulla district a house received damage during an encounter in which two Militants were killed. On 26 November, two houses were damaged during an encounter in Redwani area of Kulgam. Two residential houses, a cowshed and a bathroom were also damaged in the gunfight in Hafoo area of Tral in South Kashmir where Shakir Hassan Dar, an associate of Zakir Musa was killed on 26 November the same day. on 27 November, two houses were damaged during an encounter where Naveed Jatt was killed in Kathpora Budgam. On 28 November, at Sharsahali Pulwama, one house received damage.during an encounter in which two Militants were killed. In November, 37 Militants were killed in encounters with Government Forces, Eight civilians were also killed.

On 08 December, seven houses were damaged during an encounter in Mujgund area of Srinagar. 14 year old Mudasir was killed along with his two associates. On 12 December, One house was damaged in an encounter in Brath Kalan area of Sopore. A house was damaged during an encounter in Bunpora of Hajin area in Pulwama on December 29.
