“18 Years old, 11 Days old Militant”- Killed Before they could Finish ‘Sehri’

He can barely speak, but waseem, the cousin of slain Adil Bashir whose body drenched in blood- a reminder of constant bloodshed Kashmir valley has been witnessing- lies in a ground, thousands gathered around, some to offer funeral, others to get a site of the fallen Militant, shouts slogans even after three hours since his (ubaid’s) body has been handed over to Bashir Ahmed, his father to perform his last rites.

A word of mouth has spread among the mourners, soon an announcement is made on the podium where a speaker is speaking over a microphone, “Salute to the comrade, Allah will keep the highest place in paradise for him, he died while he was having Sehri (Pre-Dawn Meals). A senior Police officer said that gunfight broke out at Hend Satipora village after forces cordoned off the area following the credible inputs about the presence of some militants.

He was killed along with Javaid Bhat, who according to Police  had a long history of crime records and a series of crime cases were registered against him for planning and executing terror attacks in the area. The Police said that Javaid was also responsible for recruiting youth from adjoining areas of Kulgam to join proscribed terror outfits,” the spokesperson said. The Police statement also held 11-day old Militant, Wani involved in several terror attacks and terror crime cases were registered against him.

The people gathered here are shouting slogans, thousands of them, bid adieu to Adil before he was laid to rest at his native in Damhal  Hanjipora area of the Kulgam district of South Kashmir. Having Joined Militancy just 11 days back, Sajad was one of those many Militants who have been killed, in the first month after their recruitment into Militant ranks due to the lack of proper training and ammunition, despite this, lack of proper training and ammunition, 191 youth last year, as per officials, highest in a decade,  were recruited into Militant groups.

One day in Kaapran Higher secondary in Damhal Hanjipora last year, Adil Bashir Wani, a class 12th student then had told his friends that he would soon join Militancy like Dawood, “i am being forced, they are raiding my house, i want to  have friends and a peaceful life, but they (Government Forces) are pressurizing me to join Militancy by raiding my house daily.” Adil Bashir Wani passed his class 12 from the same higher secondary under science branch of studies.

“He was being constantly looked for, he was scared of being arrested, he did not want even a single day of his life to spent in prison or under police detention,” Waseeem, his cousin told The Kashmiriyat as more people keep coming to the funeral from many parts of South Kashmir. He claims that the family tried to talk to the Government Force officials several times, however they kept raiding houses looking for this famous “stone -pelter.”

The eldest brother, slain Adil Wani is being helped by two others to the funeral ground, “He was hit with pellets in his left eye during protests last year, his left eye is completely blind,” Waseem told The Kashmiriyat while pointing at him.  Adil was the youngest among his five siblings, a partially blind brother and three elder sisters.
