Two SPOs Announce Resignation in South Kashmir

August 31 Two More Special Police Officers on Friday announced their resignation from Jammu Kashmir Police in Masjids in the Tral and Qazigund areas of South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Bilal Ahmed Kumar announced his resignation at Midoora Tral and Faisal Ahmed Shah of Panzath Qazigund whose father was killed in a suspected Militant attack last year in Islamabad (Anantnag) in the Local Masjids of their respective areas. Two Relatives of Policemen Freed Safely by Militants

August 31 After the release of the father of Hizb commander, Riyaz Naikoo, Militants have released the kin of two Policemen from Kulgam. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Gowhar Ahmad Malik, brother of a Dy SP named Aijaz of Katpora in kulgam  and Sumair Salam son of ASI Salam Ahmad from Kulgam have been set free by the Militants. A total of eleven relatives of Jammu Kashmir Policemen were abducted by Militants following the arrest and the harassment of the families of Militants. A Police official confirmed that Riyaz Naikoo's father has been released from custody following which kin of two Policemen were set free by Militants.

Intense Stone Throwing Clashes Erupt in Chitragam Shopian

August 31 Massive Clashes erupted between Youth and Forces in Chitragam area of South Kashmir's Shopian District on Friday afternoon. Sources told The Kashmriyat that youth in large numbers hit the streets and threw stones on vehicles of Government Forces who retaliated with intense tear smoke shelling. Locals speaking to The kashmiriyat said that the Government forces fired pellets at the youth. The clashes were going on when this report was filed.

Massive CASO Launched in Shopian Area

August 31 A Cordon and Search Operation has been launched in the Handew of Imam Sahib in South Kashmir's Shopian District on Friday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Government Forces including 44 RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a joint Anti Militancy operation in the area following specific input about Militant presence in the Handew area. Locals said that a heavy contingent of Forces have reached the area and are conducting a search operation in the area. The search operation was going on when this report was filed.

Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing on 35A to January

August 31 The Kidnappings of the kin of Policemen that began after the vandalization of the Militant houses in South Kashmir has reached 11. Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that four more relatives of Jammu Kashmir Policemen have been abducted adding to the earlier number of seven kidnappings. The kidnappings come a day after the houses of two Militants Naveed Babu from Pulwama and Shah jahan from Shopian were allegedly set ablaze by troops, the father of Hizb commander, Riyaz Ahmed Naikoo and Lateef Tigers's two brothers and father were arrested. August 30 Unknown gunmen  abducted a son of another policeman from Midoora village of south Kashmir’s Tral, sources said. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Nasir Ahmad Mir S/O policeman Ghulam Hassan Mir, was abducted from Midoora village on Thursday night. Nasir was reportedly abducted after gunmen  barged into his residence this evening. Meanwhile, reports also suggest that many SPOs were beaten by Millitants in the same village.

August 30 437 armed force personnel have committed suicide in the last four years, whereas 237 were killed while fighting enemy either during combat operations against militants or cross border firing, Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, the minister of state for defence Subhash Bhamre said the highest proportion of suicide falls in the Army. 92 personnel from the Indian armed forces have committed suicide in 2017 making it among the highest number of suicides in the World Militaries.
