Message From Shopian in Clear- Zero Votes Polled

The message from Shopian District of South Kashmir is clear as zero votes have been cast in this South Kashmir District in the Panchayat Polls that began last month in Jammu Kashmir.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that not even a single person turned up for the elections in 98 Sarpanch seats and 791 Panch seats in Shopian.

Pertinently the scene was similar during municipal polls in October as there was no one to oppose the candidates.

Shopian District in South Kashmir has been worst hit with killings in the present year at least 80 Kashmiris including civilians, militants and policemen were killed.

3 Sarpanchs and 9 Panchs were elected unopposed in the total 12 Sarpanch and 107 Panch halqas in Shopian panchayat block.

Similarly in Keller block, 29 Panch and 11 Sarpanch candidates won unopposed.

The Zainapora block has a total of 11 Sarpanch and 89 Panch halqas, 4 Sarpanchs and 16 Panchs were elected unopposed.

In Chitragam block, 5 Sarpanchs and 17 Panchs were elected unopposed in the total 11 Sarpanch and 71 Panch halqas.

At Imam Sahib, 4 Sarpanchs and 11 Panchs were elected unopposed against the total of 11 Sarpanch and 95 Panch seats.

The Harmain panchayat block saw 2 Sarpanchs and 7 Panchs winning unopposed.
