Encounter Starts in Pulwama

PULWAMA
January 31 An Encounter started between militants and Government forces at Drubgam area of of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District on Thursday night. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that 55 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. Immediately the troops cordoned off the area and the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per initial reports available to The Kashmiriyat two to three militants are trapped in a residential house in the area. An exchange of fire was going on when this report being filed. Meanwhile Mobile Internet services have been barred in Shopian and Pulwama districts.

Advisory For Food Business Operators

January 31 Commissioner Food Safety, Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar today issued an advisory for Food Business Operators (FBOs) in view of frequent closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway due to adverse weather conditions. The FBOs have been asked to destroy deteriorated food items forthwith. “There may be apprehensions that food products especially fruits and vegetables, perishable food items that were in transit may get deteriorated. All the stakeholders especially FBOs dealing with of livestock, fruit, vegetables and perishable food items are advised to ensure that deteriorated food items, if any, are destroyed on spot,” the advisory reads. January 31 A cordon and search operation has been launched in South Kashmir's Islamabad (anantnag) district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a search operation has been launched in Mohripora, Arahama of Kokernag belt in South Kashmir's Islamabad (anantnag) district amid snowfall. The Forces have blocked the entry points into the area and are not allowing any vehicles to move into the area. A search operation had been started when this report was filed.

January 31 The Kabul government is steadily losing its grip over parts of Afghanistan even as American forces intensify their air campaign against insurgent groups, a US government watchdog said Thursday. The latest grim assessment of Afghanistan’s security situation comes as the US pursues talks with the Taliban and urgently seeks a way out of the 17-year war. Numbers provided by Resolute Support, the US-led NATO mission in Afghanistan, show that as of October 31, only 63.5 per cent of Afghans are living in areas controlled or influenced by the Kabul government — down from 65.2 per cent the previous quarter.
