Seven years have passed since the social welfare department had sent a proposal to the Government of Jammu Kashmir for the establishment of four Drug De-addiction centers in the Kashmir valley,a year after the Government approved only two centers, one of them in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District.
Locals Living in the area claimed that they constantly asked the Government to make the center functional, but the authorities concerned have failed.
A Local Shariq told The kashmiriyat that if functional it can treat thousands of drug addicted youth from the nearby areas.
The Kashmiriyat raised the issue with the concerned officials who said that the project was approved at a cost of Rs 3.11 crores, out of which 1.6 crores have been spent so far.
“There Is an unavailability of funds from social welfare department which is preventing us to complete the construction,” an official said.
When The Kashmiriyat spoke to an official of the social welfare department he assured that he will look into the issue and take immediate action.
