Adnan Killed in Sopore Encounter had Joined Militancy a Month Ago

Adnan Ahmed Channa who had joined Militancy less than a month ago has been killed in the encounter that raged in the Gund Brath area of Sopore in North kashmir’s Baramulla District.

After an hour of gunfight, one Militant was killed, who was later identified as Adnan Ahmed Channa who is a resident of Arampora area in Main town of Baramulla.

A top Police official speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that Government Forces including the 22RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police had launched a cordon and search operation following specific input about Militant presence in the area.

During the Cordon, the hiding Militant opened fire, triggering an encounter, during which one Militant was killed, adding that, one weapon was recovered along with the body of the slain Militant identified as a Lashkar e Taiba affiliate, Adnan Ahmed Channa.

Adnan who is from Baramulla who had been missing from two months had joined militant ranks, as a picture of him holding a gun surfaced on social media on June 15.

Adnan, son of Ali Mohammad Channa, resident of Armpora Old Town, Baramulla, went missing from home on April 14, and his family had failed to trace his whereabouts since. They had also filed a missing report with the police.

On June 15, a picture of Adnan, in which he was seen wearing an army fatigue and holding an AK47 rifle, went viral on social media sites.

Adnan was the first youth from Baramulla town to have joined militant ranks recently. Police had declared Baramulla as a militantcy-free district in January this year.

A Partial shutdown is being observed in the Baramulla township to mourn the killing of the Local Militant- The authorities also snapped Mobile internet services in the District, Also classwork was suspended in colleges to prevent any law and order situation.
