December 10

People including women on Sunday clashed with the Army men in Hapatnad area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) District after CRPF men allegedly abused a young girl in the area.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that dozens of people including young girls hit the streets of Hapatnad after a young girl was abused by Army men deputed for the Panchayat elections scheduled on Tuesday.

The Forces allegedly tried to molest a young girl who was passing on the main road, but she escaped and went back to her home and as soon as the news spread, angry youth in large numbers hit the streets and came out in form of a procession.

“Shouting pro independence and Anti India slogans, hundreds of youth hit the streets and marched towards the camp in form of a massive procession,” a local told The Kashmiriyat.

He said the angry youth upon reaching the camp were also hurled with abuses which intensified their anger and scores of them including women hurled stones and Kangri (firepots) on the Government Force personnel.

“The angry youth also dismantled a bunker of the troopers stationed in the area for tomorrow’s panchayat Polls,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

The Army official upon being contacted denied the allegations and said the forces reached the spot immediately and resolved the issue cordially after meeting the locals.
