Encounter Rages in Forests Between Kulgam and Shopian in Kashmir

Danishwar Hameed An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Kongwatan area of Damhal Hanjipora that lies between the districts of Shopian and Kulgam in South Kashmir on Saturday morning. An official confirming the exchange of gunfire to The Kashmiriyat said that 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police, and 18 BN of CRPF jointly laid a siege in the Kongwatan forest range area. He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area. At least 30 Students From Kulgam Test Positive for Covid 19

Danishwar Hameed At least three dozen students were tested positive for covid 19 in the Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Wednesday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that at least 30 students from the Noorani Public School in Khul Damhal area in South Kashmir's Kulgam district tested positive for Covid 19 infection. The school has a total roll of 54 students out of which 37 tested positive. All the students are aged between 10-14. Earlier on Wednesday, a teacher of Government School in the Budgam district after the school was shut down for a period of five days. The Block Medical Officer (BMO) DH Pora upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said, “37 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected from the school." Details emerging.

  A 27-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a park at District hospital Kulgam on Friday afternoon. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a youth identified as Zubair Ahmed Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat from Kulgam, was found dead in a park around 12:50 am. He was working in a tea shop near Kulgam hospital, official said. He was rushed to District hospital Kulgam where doctors declared him brought dead, said the official.   A government school building was gutted in a fire mishap in Yaripora village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday evening. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Primary School building located at Munand, Yaripora caught fire this evening. He said that both local residents and fire tenders reached the spot but could not save the building from being destroyed. Danishwar Hameed A fire broke out in Nehama locality in Kulgam in the afternoon of Tuesday damaging several residential houses and shops. The blaze erupted at around 1 pm and quickly spread to adjacent shops and residential houses. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was put out after two hours. At least a dozen structures had been damaged in the fire, he said. “The losses are massive but we cannot put out a figure just now. It will be assessed later in the day,” the official said.
