A joint team of Kupwara Police and Army 160 TA here has apprehended one OGW namely, Fareed Ahmad Chowhan on of Shamas Din Chowhan resident of Reshwari, Awoora, aged 33 , Ward Member Zurhama, Kupwara. Fareed was moving in suspicious circumstances in the area when local people surrounded him and informed the police about it late last evening. Acting on the tip of local police along with a team of TA 160 Bn apprehended Fareed who was subjected to personal search. During his personal search a Chinese Pistolwas recovered from his possession. He has been taken into custody and a case under relevant provisions of law has been registered against him at PS Trehgam and investigation taken up.- (KB)

As many as 92 officers of Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) and Jammu & Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) are attaining superannuation in the calendar year 2022. Details available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) lay bare that 56 JKPS officers and 36 JKAS officers would retire in the year 2022. Both the Home department and General Administration Department- who are respectively cadre controlling authority for JKPS and JKAS- have already notified the names of officers who are attaining superannuation in the next 12 months. Amid the steep surge in positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the hospitals are facing staff shortage as hundreds of staff members have tested positive for Covid-19 since the third wave has begun. Kashmir Valley including Srinagar received light rains while some plains and higher reaches had light to moderate snowfall since overnight, officials said on Tuesday. Amid cloud cover, the night mercury increased across J&K and Ladakh with only three weather stations set up by the meteorological department here recording below sub-zero temperature. Jammu Kashmir reported a major spike as 1966 persons tested positive for covid-19 in the last 24 hours, while five deaths have been reported across the region, officials said on Sunday. 889 out of these cases fresh cases were reported from the Jammu division and 1077 from Kashmir, an official told The Kashmiriyat.
