Mir Irfan Unknown gunmen on Thursday looted cash from a van near the Tak Mohallah near the main branch of Jammu Kashmir bank at Shopian in South Kashmir. A police official told The Kashmiriyat that at least four gunmen attacked the van and decamped with cash around Rs 60-80 lakhs. Mir Irfan Massive stone throwing clashes erupted in Hermain area of South Kashmir Shopian district on Tuesday afternoon against a land acquisition drive by the administration in the area. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that an elderly man suffered cardiac arrest and died on spot in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Women and men in large numbers threw stones on a team of officials and the Locals who were on a land acquisition drive in Hermain village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. They said that the team led by Tehsildar Hermain, Block Development Officer Hermain had arrived in the area to take possession of the local land. An elderly man identified as Abdul Salam Thokar, a resident of Padderpora area in Shopian suffered a heart attack and died on spot.

Mir Irfan Sarjan Barkati, a popular reistance figure from South Kashmir's Shopian has been released from detention after four years. A family member of Barkati speaking to The Kashmiriyat confirmed that he has been released from detention from Police Station in Hurpora area of Shopian. Barkati who had become the face of the 2016 civilian uprising was arrested on October 01, 2016. The family member said that scores of people have gathered outside the house of Barkati in Reban Shopian to welcome his release. "He is on the way home from Hurpora Police Station," the family member told The Kashmiriyat over phone.

A police official told The Kashmiriyat, that two suspects were detained on the charges of hatching a conspiracy for murdering the three labourers from Rajouri.
