Policeman Caught by Locals while Stealing Cattle in Shopian

April 10 A Special Police Officer (SPO) was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing the cattle at Zarkan area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. A police official said that Jahangir Ahmad Wani of Balpora was arrested by local residents and later handed over to the police. Forces Bust Militant Hideout in Shopian

April 09 The Government Forces busted a hideout of Militant in the Shopian District of South Kashmir, Police officials said. They said that a hideout was busted on Tuesday morning at Yawran Forests area of Shopian in South Kashmir. "Incriminating materiel was recovered from the hideout," the Police officials added.

Two Militants Reportedly Killed in Brief Encounter in Shopian

April 06 Two unidentified Militant has been killed when they were intercepted by Indian Army's 44 RR in Pinnjura area of Shopian District of South Kashmir. Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the Militants opened fire on a party of Indian Army when they were intercepted by them near the Pinjura's Parguchi to which the Army responded. In the retaliatory fire, two Militants, unidentified, were killed, however no dead body has been recovered from the site as of yet, they said. Unknown Gunmen Attack Bus on Election Duty in Shopian

April 05 Unknown gunmen attacked a bus deputed for election duty at Turkwangam area of South Kashmir's Shopian late on Thursday night. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Bullets were fired indiscriminately the bus bearing the registration number JK02K-7311 in Turkwangam area of Shopian. However, no loss of life was reported from the incident, the bus suffered damage in the firing.

Militants Offer Gun Salute to Slain Lashkar Commander in Shopian

April 02 Panic gripped Moolu Chitragam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday evening as massive firing was heard in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a group of at least five armed Militants appeared in Moolu Chitragam on the grave of slain Lashkar commander, Zaffar Ahmed Pall and offered gun salute to the slain commander. The Militants appeared in the Moolu village of Shopian on Tuesday evening and fired several rounds in the air as a mark of respect to Zafar Pall. Four Militants including Zafar Ahmed Pal were killed in an encounter with Government Forces in Shopian on Monday morning. Locals of Shopian Area Allege Vandalism by Indian Army

March 30 Accusing the Indian Army of vandalism on Friday night, the locals of Ratnipora in Shopian district of South Kashmir said that the entire area is being threatened by the Army. Locals from the area told The Kashmiriyat that Army men around 11 pm, entered the Ratnipora area and vandalized window panes and doors of more than twenty houses. The Army laid a siege around the Ratnipora area and thrashed several residents and smashed the window panes of many houses and privately owned cars. "The Army man accused us of supporting Militancy vadalized property and also damaged the cell phones of several villagers," A Local told The Kashmiriyat They alleged that Army also thrashed many locals. However the Indian Army denied these allegations.
