Despite Arrest of 800 OGWs in 2018, Number of OGWs on Rise in Jammu Kashmir- Report

A report of the Crime wing of Jammu Kashmir police has revealed that the number of active militants have gone down since 2017, however, the network of over ground workers (OGWs) have shown a steep rise, raising another big concern for the security grid in the State.

Despite the arrest of nearly 800 OGWs in 2018, the annual report of the Crime Department, the number of militants in Srinagar district is 11 while as the number of OGWs has reached 112.

The report—Crime Gazette was recently released in Srinagar by the J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh.

The report puts the number of OGWs in Kupwara at 32, 72 OGWs are active in Awantipora.

In Handwara area of the district, there are 23 active militants and at the same time 496 OGWs are active in the area.

The Baramulla and Sopore areas of North Kashmir 3, 30 active militants while as the number of OGWs active is 26 and 15 respectively.

In South Kashmir districts, the report discloses that there are 39 active militants in Shopian and 136 OGWs. In Islamabad (anantnag) district, there are 23 active militants and number OGWs is 130.

In Doda district, the report says that there are 122 OGWs but no active militant.

In Jammu division, the number of active Militants is 7 while the number of OGWs is 301.

Chenab valley has seven active Militants and 161 OGWs.
