Despite Criticism from Modi, BJP, Omar Says Prime Minister and President Will be Reinstated in Kashmir

Despite facing criticism from the Indian Prime Minister and the top brass of India’s Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Omar Abdullah on Tuesday while addressing a rally in Pattan area of North Kashmir said that he stands by his statement.

On Monday, Omar Abdullah, the former chief Minister and the Vice president of National Conference stoked a controversy when he said that his party would bring back the demand of “separate Prime Minister and President of Kashmir.

The statement was slammed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley among other BJP leaders, who questioned the NC-ally Congress to “come clean on its stand” on the issue, many in the congress questioned the BJPs alliance with the PDP post this Congress-Ally statement.

Omar Abdullah said that the party stands by the statement and would strive to bring back a separate Prime Minister and Sadar-i-Riyasat like Jammu Kashmir had until 1965, when these posts were replaced by the chief minister and the governor.
