The Power Development Department of Jammu Kashmir Government has deprived people of electricity in more than 50 villages of South Kashmir for the past four days.

Residents of various areas in the Bih Bagh and Yaripora belts speaking to The Kashmiriyat alleged that despite their repeated attempts to reach the PDD officials, the issue has not been resolved as of yet.

A resident, Riyaz Ahmed Shah of Bihibagh told The Kashmiriyat that the Department had not sent any prior notice about an electricity shutdown or anything of that sort to the residents, “Our lives have turned into a nightmare, because of the constant power shutdown from the oast four days,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

The business in the area is also suffering massive losses due to the unscheduled power shutdown, he said.

He said that areas like Yaripora, Reban Parigam, Kader, Yamrach, Koker Gund, Bihibagh, Bolsu, Numai, Turigam, Katrasoo and dozens of other areas have been reeling under darkness for the last four days now.

PDD officials upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that conductors on 33K-VA transmission line were to be changed and the work was disrupted by some locals on the first day.

Nisar Ahmed, the PDD EXEN said that due to the heavy winds, the electricity has been affected in these areas like most parts of the Kashmir valley. “electricity wil be restored soon,” he added.
