Ex-Cop Who Decamped with Service Rifle Last Year Killed in Shopian Encounter

Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in 14-hours long gunfight with forces in a Gadapora in Imam Sahib area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 34 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about Militant presence in the area laid a cordon and search operation in the area.

The cordon continued for nearly an hour, during which the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter.

The deceased militants were identified as SPO turned-militant Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Harmain Shopian and a recently recruited militant, Yasir Ahmad Shah of Arhama Shopian.

The family of Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Harmain Shopian, was in  a shock when they get news about their son decamping with a & have apparently joining Militancy.

His father on the other hand with folded handed asked his son to return home, The family members with tearful eyes appealed Showkat to return home.

On 25 August, A special police officer, Showkat Ahmad sheikh son of Abdul Majeed sheikh resident of Hermain shopian along with an AK-47 rifle of his colleague is missing from police station Shopian of Southern Kashmir. (The Kashmiriyat)
