Gloom Prevails as Valley Mourns Shopian Killings

The Kashmir Valley has shut down for the third consecutive day against the killings of 12 Militants and 4 Civilians in South Kashmir.

Life has come to a standstill throughout the valley as Troopers are patrolling the streets in most parts of the valley.

Down in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) clashes had been witnessed in many localities including Seer Hamdan, Nambal, KP Road areas, Sarnal, Harnag and Batengoo on Monday. So today, strict restrictions have been imposed in many areas of the district.

Protests were also witnessed in Dehruna Dooru area to mourn the killing of local Militant Roufa Bashir Khanday who was killed in a nocturnal encounter on Sunday.

In Kulgam District, despite a curfew yesterday clashes erupted in Damhal Hanjipora. Minor clashes also erupted in some areas. The District has completely shut today to mourn the killings.

In Pulwama District Strict restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure. Government Forces are patrolling the roads and movement of public is being allowed at some places.

The Shopian District is in mourning too. In many areas of the district people are rushing towards the houses of slain Militants.

“Thousands of people are gathering at the houses of slain Militants,” a local told The Kashmiriyat.

Strict Restrictions have been imposed in North Kashmir towns and Srinagar localities.

Shutdown is also being observed In Banihal to mourn the Killings.

Twelve Militants and Three Civilians were killed in three separate encounters. The Civilians were identified as

Zubair Ahmad Bhat (Age 22) of Gopalpora, Kulgam, Mehraj-ud-Din Mir (Age 28) of Okey, Kulgam, Mohammad Iqbal Bhat (Age 30) of Kasipora, Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Thoker (Age 38) of Dragad, Shopian.

While the slain Militants were identified as Adil Ahmed Thoker (Age 23) of Humhuna, Shopian, Zubair Turray (Age 26) of Shopian, Rayees Ahmed Thoker (Age 22) of Padarpora, Shopian, Nazim Dar (Age 18) of Nagbal, Shopian, Yawar Itoo (Age 19) of Safanagri, Shopian, Ubaid Shafi Malla (Age 19) of Trenz, Shopian, Rouf Bashir Khanday (Age 21) of Darhuna, Islamabad, Ishfaq Ahmad Malik (Age 23) of Pinjoora, Shopian, Aetimad Fayaz Malik of Amshipura, Shopian, Mohammad Aqib Malik (Age 20) of Rangat, Kulgam, Sameer Ahmed Lone of Hillow, Shopian, Gyas-ud-Din Thokar (Age 28) of Padarpur, Shopian, Ishfaq Ahmed Thokar (Age 25) of Padarpura, Shopian.

Train Services have been suspended across the Kashmir Valley and Internet remains shut for the second Consecutive day.

Kashmir University also postponed all the exams scheduled on Tuesday and suspended the class work as a precautionary measure.

Schools, Colleges and other Educational Institutes have been shut across the valley while banks and other Government offices have also been closed down.

Business Establishments have also shut to mourn the killings while traffic movement has been impacted to a great extent too.
