2002 Akshardam Attack- Gujrat Police arrests Anantnag Resident from his Home

In a major crackdown, Gujarat Police’s ATS on Friday has arrested an alleged Lashkar e Taiba (LeT) affiliate Mohammed Yaseen Bhat from his residence in Islamabad (Anantnag) district in South Kashmir.

As per reports, Yaseen was involved in the Akshardham attack and was picked by the Gujarat ATS from Jammu- Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Yaseen Butt had allegedly transported the explosives from Pakistan’s Jammu Kashmir border during the Akshardham Attack.

He has been currently being brought to Ahmedabad for further investigation. He was arrested in a joint operation between Gujarat ATS and Jammu Kashmir police based on a tip-off.

What is the Akshardham attack?

On September 2002, two armed men attacked the Akshardham Temple complex at Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.

Reports claim that the attackers killed around 34 people while taking over the complex,  injuring over 84 people in the attack.

The siege was subsequently ended by the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, who stormed in and gunned down both the attackers.
