Today, he formally joined National Conference at a public meeting chaired by Omar Abdullah in South Kashmir and as Sources within national Conference informed The Kashmiriyat he is likely yo contest assembly elections on a ticket of National conference in Kokernag constituency of South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district.

A resident of Peer Takiya in Kokernag area, Syed Tauqeer’s entry into National conference is being seen as a major boost to the party in the District in general and in the Kokernag constituency in particular. “National conference workers have geared up and the entry of Peerzada Syed Tauqeer has provided a major boost to us,” A worker of NC told The Kashmiriyat.

An Advocate of the District court in Islamabad (anantnag) who had worked with him remembers Syed Tauqeer as punctual and ‘honest to his job’ while a youth whose brother is booked under PSA and is currently in Jammu jail told The Kashmiriyat, “My brother is in jail for the past 14 years, the only time, we saw hope in my brother getting released was when the case of my brother was shifted to his court, however when he was about to bail my brother out, the case was shifted to another court.”

“He has tried to help almost everyone and tried to resolve disputes at the first hearing in the court, rather than making people spend days in the courts,” Abdul Rashid Khanday, a resident of Islamabad (anantnag) township told The Kashmiriyat.

National Conference on Sunday held an impressive rally in South Kashmir’s Kokernag on Sunday to welcome the former judge in their party. “I do not believe in  creating unnecessary hype around me, we all know the problems, but i will work for the solutions to these problems,” Syed Tauqeer told The Kashmiriyat.

He said that being a judge, he used to met hundreds of people everyday, who did not come to greet him or ripe benefits, but came to him with their problems and told him about their problems. “I at least have a sense of everyday problems of people,” Peerzada Syed Tauqeer told The Kashmiriyat.

Peerzada Tauqeer had submitted his resignation in the month of January, however his resignation was initially rejected by the Jammu Kashmir Government. A former KAS officer, Farooq Ahmed Shah, the former DC of Srinagar also joined National Conference.

Experts believe that the entry of such people will boost up the voting percentage which otherwise was likely to go down in the view of growing support for Militancy.
