Incomplete Bridge Claims Yet Another Life as 15 Year Old Boy Drowns in River in Kokernag

A 15 year old boy on Saturday afternoon died after falling down from an incomplete bridge in Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Islambad (Anantnag) district.

The boy identified as Nazir Ahmad Bimla Son of Fareed Ahmad Bimla, a resident of Magam , Sona Brari, Kokernag drowned in Nullah Brengi today evening after falling down from a bridge he was walking on, Locals told The Kashmiriyat.

His dead body was recovered from Brengi river near Khalhar/

Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the boy was walking on the incomplete bridge over the Nullah with his father when he lost balance and slipped in to Nullah.

A local resident Mohammad Yousuf Naikoo told The Kashmiriyat that the work was started on the bridge in 2011 but latter the contractor stopped the work on the bridge and since than it has become a death Tral for the People as many accidents occurred on the bridge since last 7 years.

The former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Omar Abdullah granted a bridge to this area after school bus met with an accident and eleven school children died, however the bridge was never completed.

“The officials after Omar Abdullah was removed from power, stopped the constriction work,” Fayaz Ahmed Lone another Local told The Kashmiriyat, adding that if constructed the bridge would have connected more than twenty villages with the main road.

However, the locals later constructed a wooden bride themselves, which has caused many injuries and deaths in the past few years, he said.
