The Northern Kashmir District of Kupwara is has been on the developmental front from the last couple of years, But some factors still add to its downfall and backwardness.
The District lags behind in cleanliness of main drainage system and main tracks of Kupwara Town.
Tracks for Pedestrians are used by shopkeepers for their personal material and all showoff of their stock.
Shopkeepers use more space than they own which forces the people to walk on the roads leading to Traffic jams in the main Town of Kupwara.
There is no space for pedestrians and no proper parking is seen in the Town.
Locals in the main market Kupwara complain that some of the drainage and tracks are left unclean which results in the blocked drainages causing problems to the locals.
Some locals also claim that, “local municipal committee sweepers don't perform their duty on daily basis; they somehow manage to come here and clean the streets and drains after 20 to 25 days. They do it by their wish and don't really care about the performance of their duty.”
The shopkeepers in the town allege that we clean the drain on their own.
The Kashmiriyat reporter, Tasaduq Hussain in this connection got in touch with The Municipal committee officials in Kupwara who agreed to the faults within the system and said that they are trying to address the issue as soon as possible. The officer said “We had 35 Sweepers earlier and at present we have a smaller number. We are soon planning to appoint new sweepers and make sure the issues concerning general public addressed.”
He also said that, “We will soon launch an operation against the shopkeepers who block the way for pedestrians”
He also seeked the cooperation of General Public to achieve the goal.
