Major CASO in Shopian, Dozen Villages Under Siege

A massive search operation has been launched  in over a dozen villages of Shopian after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Official sources said 34 RR,  14th Bn CRPF and Shopian police launched cordon and search operation after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

As per sources the villages which are under cordon including Kachdora, Chakoo, Batapur, Abahatu, Budur, landoora, Garhind, Muradpur, Bamun, Tongrikol, Mantribuk, Harmain and it's adjacent areas.

Shopian district is considered  to be the second hot belt of militancy where more than 30 local militants are active 

Pertinently in 2017, about nine such massive search operations were launched by forces in South kashmir mainly in Shopian district, however all of them ended peacefully.

Door to door search operation is going on.

Protest in Shopian after Army beats Students

Protests erupted in Keller area of Shopian district after army allegedly beated students at government higher secondary school Keller.

Sources said that patrolling party of Army were stoned near higher secondary school Keller after which they barged into the premises of higher secondary school Keller and beated some students ruthlessly and took identity cards of some students along with them as well.

Reports said that one student got injured in forces action and he has been hospitalised.

Sources said soon after the news spread the area, locals along with students took to streets and started protesting against the alleged  high handedness of the forces.

Protests were going on when last reports came in.

Urs of Dastgeer Sahab: Braving chill, Devotees Flock Pinjura Shopian

Braving chilly weather conditions, Hundreds of people joined night-long prayers on the occasion of Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani Gous-ul-Azam in pinjura where the minimum temperature was about five degree Celsius.

Special night-long prayers were organised in shrines and other religious places in the valley.

People from all corners of South Kashmir flocked to Pinjura in Shopian and prayed the entire night here, Special prayers were held for peace and prosperity in Kashmir, Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat.

The devotes have the glimpse of "Holy Tabrokaats", including holy Relic of Hazrat Gous after Fajr (morning) prayers and the process will continue throughout the day after prayers.

Large number of vendors in pinjura particularly selling 'Halva paratha' and other eatables.

However, the main congregation was held in the shrine of Hazrat Gous-ul-Azam at Khanyar in the downtown city, where thousands of devotees, including women and children, from different parts of the valley participated in the night-long prayers despite chilly weather condition.

Mughal road remains closed for the 16th day today.

While fresh snowfall on Pir  Panjal  hampered the snow clearance work on Mughal Road it has been closed for the last 16 days.

Mughal road, which links the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian district, was closed for traffic on December 10 evening after a heavy snowfall.

Cold wave continued in Kashmir as the night temperature stayed several degrees below the freezing point.

Day temperatures were also below normal forcing people to stay indoors.

Shopian village, Shermal without portable water from last one month

Shirmal village of South kashmirs Shopian district is facing acute shortage of drinking water from last one month.

Locals said that we have a water supply scheme in heff village with separate pipelines however heff village has water available 24×7 but due to unknown reasons we are being deprived.

"The supply pipes have dried up now. No water comes through the supply scheme heff now," Shahid Ahmad, a local said.

"The women are forced to fetch the water from streams and springs in villages miles from their homes," he told The Kashmiriyat.

In winter, we are forced to use water of canals for cooking and drinking purposes, which poses a health risk, another local said.

He added we have contacted concerned authorities so many times in this regard, but to no avail.

The Kashmiriyat contacted the XEN PHE Shopian Mr Nisar Ahmed, he said no body had brought this in my notice so far.

He assured that he will look into the matter and hope their water supply will be restored tomorrow.

Pellet Woes: Two Surgeries Fail to Restore Javaid's eyesight

Javaid Ahmad Bhat (20), son of Wali Muhammad Bhat of Litter Pulwama was hit by pellets on Aug 13, 2017, during clashes near the encounter site at Awneera village of South Kashmir's Shopian district.

Javaid, who had started his own provisions store after leaving his studies mid way says that the day he was hit by pellets life has not been the same for him.

"I left studies midway as my parents could not afford to let me continue my education. Soon after leaving my studies I started a Kiryana shop in Shirmal village," Javaid told The Kashmiriyat.

He said that he was attending to his shop when he heard that an injured man identified as Muhammad Sayeed Bhat needs blood.

"As soon as I heard the news, I went to Zainapora to donate blood. However, on reaching the hospital, I came to know that he has been shifted to Srinagar," he said.

He said that he suffered pellet injuries in chest, face and right eye after he left the hospital and was heading back home.

Wali Muhammad Bhat, father of Javaid said that his son has undergone two surgeries so far but doctors were not successful in restoring his eyesight.

He added that he has to undergo surgery for the third in January next year.

"We hope that he will regain his eyesight after the third surgery. He as well as the entire family has suffered a lot," said Bhat.

He said that the family which is running short of finances has so far spent over one lakh rupees on the surgeries and medicines.

Javaid said that the pellet injuries have affected his business as well.

"I have not started my business since the day I suffered pellet injuries," he said.

Pertinently on August 13, three militants were killed in an encounter in Awneera village of South Kashmir's Shopian district.

A civilian identified as Muhammad Sayeed, resident of Shirmal was also killed during the clashes and over 100 were injured.

The killing of Wani on July 8 last year intensified protests against Indian rule in the Muslim-majority Himalayan territory.

Since then, Indian Government forces have injured thousands of young Kashmiris with pellet guns, Hundreds of civilians including men and women have lost their eyesight partially or completely after being hit with pellets.

Government forces say the pellet-firing shotgun is "non-lethal" and used to disperse crowds, but hundreds of families have been scarred by the blinding injuries to teenagers since the weapon was introduced five years ago.
