Girl Molested During IPL Match in Wankhede Stadium Featured

April 18

A 22-year-old student was allegedly molested while watching an IPL match with her college friends at the Wankhede stadium on April 14. After the woman raised an alarm, the police nabbed the culprit and later arrested him.

According to the woman’s complaint to the Marine Drive police, the incident happened on Saturday night when she had reached the stadium to watch an IPL match. She told the police that she along and her friends were seated at the Sachin Tendulkar stand when the incident happened.

The stadium was packed with spectators and the match was going on when she noticed that a man wearing a black t-shirt was walking at level 2 of the Sachin Tendulkar stand.

At around 8pm when she was watching the match, she noticed that the same man with a bottle of water in his hand approached her and tried to hand over her a bottle of water. She refused to hold the water bottle, but the man came closer and tried to give her the bottle again, after which she shouted ‘I don’t want it’.

The man, who appeared to be in his thirties, then touched her inappropriately.

The woman then raised an alarm which was noticed by a police official deployed at the stadium. She quickly narrated the incident and pointed towards the man who was trying to escape. The cop asked the man to stop and caught him. He was later taken to the Marine Drive police station for questioning and was later arrested.

A police official said, “The accused has been booked under section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC.”

The man was identified as Gaindraj Satnami, 26, a resident of Masjid in South Mumbai, who was working at a food stall in the stadium. He was produced before a court on Sunday and remanded in police custody till April 17.
