Kashmir Custodial Killing- “M.Sc Scholar, Principal Was Constantly Harassed by Forces”

It is another day of mourning in the Kashmir valley, this time the gloomy clouds rounded the Awantipora Locality of South Kashmir where thousands of women and men are waiting for the dead body of Rizwan Pandit, who was killed in the custody of NIA and Police.

Accusing the Jammu Kashmir Police of highhandedness, the family of Rizwan Pandit son of Asadullah Pandit of Awantipora who was allegedly killed in custody has demanded probe into the incident.

As per Sources, Rizwan Asad Pandit, a resident of Awantipora, who died in police custody came on the radar of security agencies following the Fidayeen attack on CRPF Training Centre in Lehthpora on 31 December 2017.

Two local Fidayeen militants from militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad and five CRPF personnel were killed in that attack.

Since that attack, Rizwan was arrested, interrogated and released from time to time. Security agencies believed he was a militant sympathizer and an OGW of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit.

Zulkarnain, The brother of Rizwan while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that he (Rizwan) was picked up by forces during a raid at their house in Awantipora on August 16, however post that he was kept in illegal detention for two weeks.

“On August 29, the Jammu Kashmir Police falsely claimed that he was arrested on August 29, when they claimed to have busted three Militant modules, How is it possible that he was a part of Module busted on 29, when he had been arrested 14 days before that?” Zulkarnain asked.

A few days later, my brother, was booked under Public safety act and Shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail, after his PSA was quashed, he was still not released, Zulkarnain told The Kashmiriyat, adding that a few days ago, the forces released him.

“However they released him, and a few days ago, they again raided our house, and arrested him during a nocturnal raid,” he said. The family was informed that a joint team of NIA and Jammu Kashmir Police had raided his house.

“We want to see him in the nearby Police station, however we were told that he has been shifted to SOG CARGO camp in Srinagar,” Zulkarnain told The Kashmiriyat.

As per Locals, the officials of National Investigation Agency of India were accompanying the JKP during the raids at the house of Rizwan pandit in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District.

“NIA has soaked its hands with the blood of Kashmiris which has been flowing for the past many years,” a Local told The Kashmiriyat while trying to make his way to the family of Rizwan amid intense clashes in the Awantipora area.

Rizwan was an MSc, a school Principal and a former guest lecturer at Islamic University of Science and Technology. As the news about his death spread, authorities closed the University to stop possible protests.

Clashes erupted in parts of Kashmir valley as soon as the news of custodial killing of Rizwan who was also a teacher spread among the Locals. Mobile internet services were also snapped in parts of the Kashmir valley.
