Kashmir- First Two Months of 2019 Have Seen At least 100 Killings

Thirty Nine militants, Fifty Eight Government forces personnel and three civilians have been killed in the first two months while over a dozen forces personnel, civilians were wounded in the Kashmir valley in various violence related incidents.

Figures available to The Kashmiriyat reveal that the month of January 2019 witnessed a total of 20 killings which included 17 militants, two Government Force personnel; forces personnel and a civilian.

However, the month of February proved to be the bloodiest month in recent years witnessing highest number of killings.

On February 01, three Jaish were killed in a gunfight with Drubgam area of Pulwama of South Kashmir’s Pulwama. Two of them identified as Shahid Baba of Drubgam and Anaytullah of Aripal.
Unknown gunmen on the same day abducted and shot dead a girl identified as Ishrat Amin from Pulwama area.

On February 10, Five militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with forces in Kelam area of Kulgam.

On 12 February, Hilal Ahmad Rather of Begambagh who had helped Naveed Jatt escape from SMHS hospital was killed during a gunfight in Ratnipora area of Pulwama. One army man identified as Baljeet Singh was also killed.

Two militants identified as Hilal Ahmad Wani of Yaripora and Shaoib Ahmad Akhoon of Wokay were killed in Gopalpora village of Budgam district in central Kashmir on February 13.

On February 14, a Jaish militant Adil Ahmad Dar of Kakpora area of Pulwama rammed his car into a CRPF convoy near Lethpora Pulwama. In the deadliest ever suicide bombing, 49 CRPF men were killed.

On 17 February, three Jaish e Muhammad militants belonging to Jaish were killed in a day long encounter in Pinglana village of Pulwama. Four army men including a Major and a cop fell to the bullets of militants.

The DIG south Kashmir, Nitish Kumar, a lieutenant Col and a Brigadier were also wounded.

On February 22, two unidentified militants were killed in Warpora area of Sopore in a gunfight with government forces.

Three Jaish Militants, DSP of Jammu Kashmir Police were killed during an encounter in Turigam area of Kulgam on February 24.

On February 27, two more militants including a local identified as Suhail Nazir of Saidpora were killed during a gunfight in Meemandar village of Shopian. (The Kashmiriyat)
