“Leader who eats Nothing Indian”- Shakeel Baskhi Has Always Spoken for Kashmir

The unknown gunmen again returned to the picture on wednesday night, when he barged into the house of Shakeel Bakshi, veteran pro Freedom leader and chairman of Islamic students league and fired indiscriminately at him.

Reports sais that around evening gunmen barged inside the house of Shakeel Bakshi at Gousia colony in Bemina area of Srinagar.

Bakshi, escaped the assassination bid at his home in Srinagar’s Bemina area where he recently moved from the Batamaloo headquarters of Islamic students league after the 2014 floods, the office suffered massive damage in the floods.

He gave up the wordly comfort in his early days of life and was booked for proposing the construction of a mosque inside the premises of Kashmir university in Srinagar, he was also charged for digging up the pitch during a cricket match between India and West- Indies in 1970s.

During mid 1980s, Bakshi gave along with popular militant, Ashfaq Majeed Wani gave up the habit of eating anything that was manufactured in India, including clothes.

Bakshi who has spent more than 13 years in Jail has refused to get married. In one of his interviews he speaking in this context had said, “if i get married, my family might become my first priority, but i always want the Freedom struggle and Kashmir to be my first love.”

Shakeel Bakshi who has always been known for his intellectualism has always raised and cultivated the slogan, “Anaaj Ugaaw, Azadi Paw.”

He has been booked under more than 30 Anti-india charges, and also has been vocal for a pro-Kashmir narrative.

Attack on Shakeel Bakshi has been condemned widely and has also been seen as an attempt to silence pro resistance voices in the valley.

A senior Police official upon being contacted said that they are investigating the incident throughly.
