Lesser Known Al Badr Gaining Ground in Kashmir

Four youths from south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts have announced their joining in a lesser known militant organisation Al-Badr.

As per Details available to The Kashmiriyat, Tawseef Ahmad wani son of Gh Mohiudin wani resident of Nowpora village of Pulwama district, Sameer Ahmad seh son of  resident of Sugan village of Shopian district, Nawaz Ahmad wagay son of Late Gh Qadir wagay resident of Reban Chitragam Shopian and Aijaz Ahmad Pual son of Abdul Rashid Paul, resident of Losedenaw imamsahab Shopian  photographs have joined  Al-Badr in a period of four days.

After the killing of Muzzafar Ahmad Naikoo, alias Muz Molvi, resident of Sopore area of North kashmir on 6 January 2017, police had said that Muz Molvi was only surviving militant of Al- Badr and with his killing there is no militant associated with the organisation active in Valley.

However after passage of about one and half year four educated youths from South Kashmir have joined this outfit and became first to join outfit who have announced their joining by uploading pictures wielding guns.

The first to join was Aijaz Ahmad Paul belonging to a well off family from Losedanew village of shopian district to join this outfit.

Aijaz has completed MMPHW and BSC and was presently helping his father in his fruit business, who is considered to be one of the most royal person of the area with orchards on about 50 canals.

“He left home on May 30 and within few hours his photograph went viral on social media and we got Shocked” a family member told The Kashmiriyat.

“He never showed any inclination towards militancy and we fail to understand  how a person left such a luxurious life and joined the life with troubles only” he added.

“Aijaz was a very kind and down to earth guy” says his friend Mudasir Ahmed while adding that harassment of forces is forcing every Kashmiri to pick up gun.

“Otherwise no person will leave such a luxurious life and choose the path where death is certain” he told The Kashmiriyat.

His another friend on condition of anonymity said that youth took arms because they know these forces are going to kill us today or tomorrow  for no reason, so it is better to fight with them rather than die like cowards.

Besides parents, Aijaz left behind two elder brothers and are also associated with fruit business.

Nawaz Ahmad wagay from Reban village who has completed his masters in urdu subject was 2nd one to join this outfit.

“He left home after Friday prayers and within hours his photo carrying Ak 47 went viral on social media within hours” said one of his relative.

He further added that nawaz was arrested several times by forces for having contact with militants.

He is son Gh Qadir wagay who was killed at his native area in year 1996 and he also belongs to an economically sound family.

Nawaz is survived  by mother, three sisters and one brother. Among them one married and one unmarried sister are government employees.

Sameer Ahmed seh son of Ab Aziz Seh resident of sugan village of shopian district who waa B.A  final year student was the third to join this outfit.

“On 28 May, when government forces damaged property worth lacs in sugan area, his family his family was the suffered the worst damage of the recent damage” one of his relative said while speaking to The Kashmiriyat.

“Besides damaging glasses and windowpanes of their house, they damaged all important gadgets including Refrigerator, TV, geyser, washing machine and all other valuable items of his house” said his relative while adding that forces damaged all machinery at the workshop of his brother as well and this incident left sameer very angered.

“A day after the incident he left home and after failing to trace him anywhere family lodged an FIR at Police station zainapora” said one of his family member.

“We got shocked to hear that sameer has joined ranks and his photograph while carrying Ak 47 has gone viral” said his parents while adding that atrocities of forces are forcing the young people to pick up guns.

Sameer also belongs to a well off family who was living a luxurious life has left behind his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Tawseef Ahmad wani son of Gh Mohiudin wani resident of Nowpora payeen and a B.A drop out is the fourth to join this organisation within  a period of four days.

On Friday evening he left home to offer Taravi but he didn’t return and we couldn’t find him anywhere till his picture while carrying gun went viral on Sunday morning” said his brother.

“He was never arrested before nor he showed inclination towards militants ever” he added.

Tawseef belongs to economically weak family is survived by three brothers, one sister and a widow mother as his father has died before few years.

Pertinently Al Badr was allegedly formed by the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in June 1998 but soon they parted ways from Hizb.

Al-Badr was banned by India under The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2004.

On 27 April 2005 State Department of United States Government identified Al-Badr as a terrorist organisation in its list of 40 Foreign Terrorist Organisations.

Al-Badr is currently on the U.S. State Department list of Designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation.
