September 03

A 46 year old man identified as Bashir Ahmed Reshi has been roughed up and assaulted by Jammu Kashmir Police in police lock up at Utersoo in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) District on Monday.

Family of Bashir told The Kashmiriyat that Bashir was arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police after an FIR had been lodged against him in the Utersoo Police station after which he was arrested by the Police.

“A Policeman has thrashed him severely inside the lockup after which they referred him to the nearby Shangus Primary health care center, however the Doctors there referred him to Islamabad Distrcit hospital,” his wife Wazira told The Kashmiriyat.

His Daughter Humaira said that her father had been arrested after a trivial brawl with a tractor driver who almost crushed him to death.

The driver of the tractor later went to the Police station and filed an FIR against my father, Humaira told The Kashmiriyat.

The Policemen there inhumanely tortured and injured my father, she added.

The Doctors at District hospital of Islamabad (Anantnag) told The Kashmiriyat that he has suffered an injury in the ear and is in an unconscious state.

The Police officer posted in the area said, “We found bashir lying unconscious in the Police station and rushed him to the hospital. We will investigate the matter.”

He said that Bashir was only referred to District hospital, because the Ultrasound test facility is not available at the PHC Shangus, where he had been taken earlier.
