September 02

A brief gunfight broke out between militants and the government forces in Laddi locality of Imam Sahib in south Kashmir’s Shopian district early Sunday morning.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that 44 RR, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF had jointly launched a Cordon and search operation during which the holed up Militants opened fire upon forces, triggering a gunfight around 8 am.

However as soon as the Anti Militancy operation was launched, people from nearby villages flooded the Laddi locality throwing stones on forces.

The forces used intense tear smoke shelling and aerial firing, however there was no halt to protests and the protesters managed to help the hiding Militants escape.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a Militant group led by Hizb commander, Zeenat ul Islam had been trapped in a house, however after a brief exchange of fire, they managed to escape.
