Jammu Kashmir is currently under siege as heavy rainfall continues to lash the region, exacerbating concerns over flooding and safety.

With intense showers forecasted across the regions, residents are on high alert, bracing themselves for more rainfall.

As of the latest gauge readings at 03:00 PM today, the water levels of the iconic River Jhelum paint a grim picture of the situation.

From Sangam to Asham, the river’s levels have surged, with Sangam recording a staggering 14.52 feet and Asham measuring 8.29 feet.

While the heavy rainfall shows no signs of abating, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Weather experts predict a gradual improvement in conditions between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. tonight.

The administration has cautioned the residents to not to let their guard down, as another spell of rain is expected to sweep across the region from late tomorrow afternoon into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The forthcoming rainfall, while anticipated to be less intense than today’s deluge, still poses significant risks to public safety.

Flash floods, intense hailstorms, gusty winds, and thunderstorms remain distinct possibilities, urging residents to exercise utmost caution and vigilance.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, higher altitude regions are bracing for heavy snowfall, with accumulations expected to exceed one foot in some areas.

This poses additional challenges for travelers, particularly on the perilous Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, where travel is strongly discouraged until May 1st.

Against this backdrop of uncertainty and apprehension, authorities are urging residents to stay informed and heed government advisories.

With a significant rise in the water levels of rivers and streams expected, residents are advised to take necessary precautions and prioritize safety above all else.
