Clashes, Protests Rock Parts of Kashmir Valley Amid Stiff Restrictions- Dozens on Way to Zakir’s Funeral Arrested

Intense clashes erupted in various parts of Kashmir valley on Friday in the aftermath of the killing of militant commander, Zakir Musa.

Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that intense clashes erupted in Dooru area when people in large numbers tried to take out a procession to mourn the killing of Zakir Musa, however the Forces present in the area fired tear gas shells at the protesters.

The youth retaliated with stone throwing, similarly in Seer e Hamdan area of Islamabad (anantnag) district and Awantipora clashes have been going on since morning with hundreds of youth out on the streets.

All the major urban areas including South Kashmir townships and Srinagar have been placed under curfew like restrictions amid a complete ban on Mobile internet services.

In Damhal Hanjipora area of Kulgam, the youth attacked Police station in the area, where Policemen fired tear smoke shells and pellets at the protesting youth, In Islamabad (Anantnag) district’s Hanji Dantar the forces resorted to aerial Firing upon protesters, While in Khanabal Duggapora the forces arrested two youth.

In Batengoo, youth hurled stones on vehicles of Government Forces, while in Pushwara area of Khanabal, the Forces vandalized property, the Locals told The Kashmiriyat.

In Sopore town, several youth were injured during clashes that erupted in the North Kashmir township. Dozens of youth on way to funeral of Zakir Musa were arrested near Sangam and have been detained in the Police post near Sangam bridge.

All roads leading to Tral have been sealed, the forces are disallowing movement of civilians towards Noorpora, the native of slain Zakir Musa.

“We will not allow the situation to escalate like the Burhan Situation, that is why we are not allowing any assemblies anywhere, there are apprehensions that the situation may deteriorate, but the Police is ready to face any hostilities,” A Police official said.

The authorities immediately after Zakir Musa was trapped in the encounter yesterday evening suspended the mobile internet and also ordered the closure of educational institutes and railway services in the entire valley.
