Seven feared dead, several injured in Baramulla road accident

At least seven persons are feared dead while several others wounded in a road accident in the Boniyar area of Baramulla district.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday afternoon, a passenger skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in the Bujithala area of the north Kashmir district.

They said that the rescue operations were launched immediately after the accident. “Due to the snow and the slippery conditions the rescuers are finding the operations a little tough, however, several injured have been rescued from the spot,” they said.

The injured have been shifted to the nearby health facility where they are being treated, the officials added.

Several injured have been shifted to the GMC Baramulla for treatment, sources told The Kashmiriyat.

They said that seven dead bodies have been recovered from the site so far.

The deceased were identified as; Mohd Maqbool Sheikh (70) son of Ahmad Sheikh, Ameena Bano (17) daughter of Abdul Gani Sheikh, Tahira Begum (35) wife of Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh, Abdul Rehman Lone (60) son of Fatah Lone, Mohd Maqsood Sheikh (35) son of Gh Rasool Sheikh of Bujthalan, Sameena Begum (45) wife of Abdul Hameed Sheikh, and Sarwa Begum (55) wife of Late Ghulam Mohd Bakhshi.

The top officials from the district administration have reached the spot and are monitoring the situation, they added.
