Last year the photo of a Militant carrying an RPG on his shoulder had stirred the security agencies in Kashmir.

The photo was of a popular commander, Shakoor Ahmed Dar from the Czopath area of South Kashmir’s Qazigund in Kulgam District.

Shakoor Ahmed Dar had reportedly joined Militants in October 2016 but he was working as an upper ground worker for Lashkar e Taiba since 2015, as per police sources.

Shakoor was responsible for many recruitment for lashkar e Taiba from South Kashmir districts, Sources said.

His family members were also thrashed the last year after which his father said that he was not going to call back his son.

Shakoor Ahmed Dar, Lashkar e Taiba’s Divisional Commander also appeared in the list of Most wanted Militants which was prepared by Indian Army a few days ago.

Last year a rumour spread through the Czopath area that Shakoor had been killed in an encounter, thousands of women and men hit the streets causing heavy damage to Government Forces.

Today the mood was calm though, people prayed for the popular commander to be safe, a local from Czopath told The Kashmiriyat.

Prayers were also held in a local mosque for patience to the Militant commander who was trapped in the Kulgam Area.

After an hour the gunfight was over, Shakoor had been killed along with his foreign associate.

His body was handed over to his family in utter disbelief, when the body reached the native area of Shakoor.

Women burst into wailing and the whole area reverberated with pro Freedom slogans and people from many far areas had come to get a last glimpse of the fallen Militant commander.

Shakoor will be laid to rest tomorrow at 12 noon in his native area in Czopath in Qazigund
