The residents of Sugan area in South Kashmir’s Shopian district have turned to the primitive forms of lighting as electricity has gone missing from the area for the past eight days.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat a resident of Ustadpora in Sugan said that the transformer in the area has gone defunct and the Power development department despite several requests to repair the transformer has not reached the village.

“Kerosene lamps and gas lights are what these people use to illuminate our homes as authorities are unmoved towards our long pending basic demand,” a local told The Kashmiriyat.

Executive Engineer of Power Development Department could not be reached on his phone despite several attempts.
