Ahead of Elections- Dozens More Including NEET Aspirant Arrested During Nocturnal Raids in Shopian

As elections for the final leg of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat approach closer, the Government Forces have intensified their crackdown in Pulwama and Shopian that go to polls on May 06.

Over 5.22 Lakh people are registered as voters from the twin districts of South Kashmir spread over six assembly segments comprising Tral, Pampore, Pulwama, Rajpora, Wachi and Shopian in 695 polling stations installed across the two districts.

Ahead of elections, the Government Forces have arrested more than a hundred youth to ensure law and order situation does not deteriorate in the twin districts, during a fresh round of nocturnal raids in the Nagbal belt in Shopian, dozens off youth have been arrested.

The concerned station house officer upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said he no information about the names and the number of youth arrested.

Locals from Homhuna area of Nagbal belt in South Kashmir’s Shopian said that Government Forces raided the locality around 2 am in the night and arrested several youth including one NEET aspirant (name withheld) who is appearing in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exams in Srinagar on May 5.

The Police official said that he will verify the details of the said youth.

“They are ruining the careers of the students and forcing them to pick up guns,” a friend of the NEET Aspirant told The Kashmiriyat while demanding his early release.

Hundreds of youth have been detained by government forces in the twin districts ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
