Students of the Central University in Kashmir Ganderbal campus alleged that the Government Forces barged into their campus and thrashed a few student, among which four were injured and one of them was shifted to SKIMS for treatment.
A Hosteller, who is the eyewitness of the incident told The Kashmiriyat that around 11 PM in the night, the men of Special Operations Group of Jammu Kashmir Police barged inside their hostel and started searching the hostel premises.
A top official of Jammu Kashmir Police posted in Ganderbal upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat about the incident said that there has been constant patrolling in that area as they have inputs about the movement of Militants in that area.
“We were chasing an un-numbered car, the car stopped near the gate of the hostel of the university and dropped three men right outside the gate, we entered the hostel premises only after taking permission from the warden, he was also accompanying us during the searches,” the official said.
The hostellers however alleged that the officials of the university reached the spot only after the injured students had been shifted to the hospital.
“It was students who started abusing us and shouted upon us, we were just searching Militants, such is not the behavior of educated students, most of them come from South Kashmir,” the Police official said, adding that the Militants they had inputs about were also from South Kashmir.
The Hostellers were rounded up and thrashed by the SOG men, as they objected to the unjustified searches and asked the personnel to first talk to any of the varsity officials, the student of CUK alleged.
“We did not touch anyone, if anyone was injured in the incident, where are they?” the Police official asked. He said that nobody was injured, because we did not thrash anyone, we were just following our SOP, “It was students who started pushing our men without any provocation,” the Official told The Kashmiriyat.
One of the students who was seriously wounded by the forces was shifted to SKIMS in Soura for treatment.
The Kashmiriyat contacted the University management who said they are ascertaining the details of the injured students. The students refused giving the names of the injured students at the fear of being harassed by the Local Police.
The Police official said that the video of the incident is on Social media and on that it can be clearly seen it is the students shouting ‘Anti-National’ Slogans- ‘We just left peacefully,” he added.
