Turkey Will Boycott American Electronic Items

August 14

The President of Turkey Tayyip Erdogan announced Aug. 14 that Turkey would boycott electronic products from the United States which has imposed sanctions and raised tariffs against Ankara in a dispute about the detention of a U.S. pastor.

“Turkey has one of the most solid banking systems in the world in all respects,” Erdoğan said during a symposium in Ankara to mark the 16th anniversary of the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) foundation.

Slamming the U.S. sanctions on Turkey over the arrest of Pastor Andrew Brunson, Turkish President said Ankara faces an “economic attack.”

“We can do two things; one in economy, the other in politics. We have taken measures that economy needs and we will keep doing it … What is more important, I think, is keeping our political stance strong,” he added.

About the boycott, Erdoğan said: “We will boycott America’s electronic products. If they have the iPhone,We also have our own Venus Vestel. We will adopt these measures.”

Switching to foreign currency would mean giving in to the enemy, Erdoğan added.
