Two Militants Killed in Baramulla Encounter, 7 Troopers Injured

Seven troopers of Indian Army have been injured in a gunfight that raged on Thursday noon in the Kalantara area of Kandi in Baramulla district on Thursday morning .

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that 29 RR of Indian Army, 176 BN of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a CASO in the area on Wednesday evening.

After a brief exchange of gunfire on Wednesday evening, the Militants had eventually escaped the site of the cordon.

However, the Search operations continued and on Thursday morning, fresh contact was established after forces sealed the area and conducted searches in the area to trace out the escaped militants.

During the search operation, contact was re-established with the Militants, officials said.

In the exchange of fire, two Militants have been killed, however they have not been identified yet.

As per Sources, one of the slain is a local Militant identified as Aamir Rasool Kaboo, a resident of Kaboo Sopore and another one is likely a foreigner.

Seven Army men have also been injured in the gunfight, the condition of three is stated to be critical.

SSP Baramulla, Abdul Quyoom Sofi speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the identity of the Militants is being ascertained.

He also asked the Locals to not venture close to the encounter site. “We are in the process of sanitizing the encounter site, we do not want civilians to be harmed, hence we request them to not venture near the encounter side,” he said.


Internet has been suspended as a precautionary measure in Baramulla and Bandipora districts.
