Two Militants Killed, Two Army Men Injured in Shopian Encounter

Two Militants have been killed during the encounter that started on Friday evening between militants and Government forces in Kanipora area of Shopian in South Kashmir.

An official confirming the exchange of gunfire to The Kashmiriyat said that 44 Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and 178 BN of CRPF had jointly laid a siege in Kanipora area of Shopian.

He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area.

As soon as the forces launched the searches, the Militants opened fire on them to which the forces responded.

During the exchange of gunfire two Militants were killed, who are believed to be associates of Al Badr and had joined Militancy recently.

Two Army men were also injured during the exchange of gunfire, who have been shifted to Army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar, the condition of one is stated to be critical.

However, sources told The Kashmiriyat that the slain are Local Militants, who refused to surrender despite the attempts of Government Forces.

The searches are still on to trace the Militant.
