August 02

Amid speculations and rumours, people of Jammu Kashmir especially the valley have begun storing ration and other essential supplies for months.

In cities and major towns, people were seen queuing up outside ration stores and at vegetable markets and other food stories to grab their hand on essential supplies for a storage of months.

Meanwhile rumours and speculations have taken a hot seat in the valley as the oral discussions are filled with the possible abrogation of Article 35-A, which grants special status to Jammu Kashmir.

On the security front, Additional paramilitary troopers have been rushed to the Kashmir Valley and the security cover around major shrines of Jammu Kashmir has been removed.

A total of more than 34,000 troopers have been rushed to the valley amid heightened tension, which is less visible on the streets though, as normal business is going around all major urbans of the valley.

People especially businessmen are apprehensive of the situation deteriorating to worse. “We cannot see another summer of anger, we simply cannot afford to loose more young people,” a businessman from Pulwama told The Kashmiriyat.

Regional pro establishment groups including the National Conference and People’s Democratic party have asked the Indian Government to not spread chaos among masses in Kashmir.

The National Conference led by its president Dr. Farooq Abdullah met the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi and asked him to not tinker with the special status of Jammu Kashmir.

A member of National Conference speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the Government at the centre is deliberately creating fear psychosis in Kashmir to delay the state assembly elections.

“They are trying to worsen the situation in Kashmir while their man is in power, we will not let them tinker with Article 35A or Artilce 370.”

Security cover of Jammu Kashmir’s Armed Police Wing that was earlier providing security to Amarnath Yatris has also been removed and these troopers have been shifted to unknown destinations, Sources Said.

Amid rumours and circulated wireless messages, the Jammu Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik said that the rumours are baseless.
