Mir Junaid

The video of a republic day celebration is being widely shared on Social media sites. The video is of the celebrations inside the Jamia Siraj ul Uloom in the Shopian district of South Kashmir.

The authorities from the School spoke to The Kashmiriyat said that the Government Forces forced them to celebrate the republic day function inside the school premises.

Based in the Imam Sahib area of Shopian, the school has been in news after three of its teachers were booked under the draconian public safety Act.

The Kashmiriyat contacted Mohammed Yusuf Mantoo who is chairman of the school who alleged that the 44 unit of the Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army had been forcing them to hold the event inside the school.

“It is been almost a month that the Army has been pressurizing us to hold the event inside the school premises,” Yusuf alleged, adding that, “The Indian Army also forced us to participate in the event and put the banner of the school in the front of the republic day celebrations.”

We do not understand, why is there so much hate against the school. “From the Police to the army everyone is trying to harass us, Yes we celebrated the day, but nobody understands the immense pressure we were under,” Yusuf told The Kashmiriyat.

Locals around the Siraj-ul-Uloom school said that they are eyewitnesses to the Army visiting the school frequently during the past few months.

The Kashmiriyat tried to get in touch with the concerned officials of the Indian Army, who were unavailable to comment over the issue.

Pertinently the Jammu Kashmir Police had said that the school is under the scanner. “It is affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami and we are taking action against the individuals. If there’s a need, we will act against the institution as well.”

The Story Shall be Updated if we hear from Army on the issue.
