110 Km highway stretch between Khanabal and Panchtarni to be widened for Amarnath Yatra

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday announced a 110 km four-lane road with a cost of Rs 5,300 Cr to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath to make the yatra hassle-free for the yatris.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar today, Gadkari said a four-lane 110 km road with two-lane PU shoulder Marg would be constructed with a cost of 5,300 Cr which will connect holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir.

He said the work on 73 km four-lane road from Khanabal to Chandanwari will be taken at a cost of Rs 1,800 in July 2023 and 37 km Detailed Project Report (DPR) from Chandanwari to Baltal via Panchtarni.

At a cost of 3,500 Cr it will commence in October 2023.

On the holy Amarnath cave road from Sheshnag to Panchtarni 10.8 km tunnel would be constructed which would enable the devotees to escape the harsh spell of snowfall.

He said from Panchtarni to Cave shrine 5 km long and 5.5 meter broad concrete path way will be constructed with barricades on the both sides of the road for the smooth walk of the yatris on the holy Amarnath cave road.

He said with the new road connectivity the Amarnath yatra would be completed in eight to nine hours from Srinagar instead of taking 3 days for the pilgrims to perform it.UNI
