2 alleged drug peddlers arrested with narcotics, Another accused booked under PSA in Kupwara

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said to have arrested two drug peddlers besides booking another under Public Safety Act in frontier north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Kupwara Police today arrested two notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband narcotics from their possession”, reads a statement issued to GNS.

“On specific information a team from Police Post Drugmulla led by SHO Kupwara Rafiq Lone established a naka at Bumhama near FCI along with Executive Magistrate. During Naka checking one person namely Ashiq Ahmad Rather son of Habibullah Rather a resident of Kandi was apppprehended and during his personal search charas-like substance weighing approximately 200 grams was recovered from his possession in presence of Executive Magistrate. After completing the legal formalities, Ashiq was arrested and further questioning is being carried to unearth the whole nexus”, reads the statement.

“Moreover, in another case a team of Police Station Kupwara apprehended one Waseem Ahmed Kaboo son of Farooq Ahmed Kaboo, a resident of Maratgaam, Handwara at Regipora crossing, who was moving under suspicious circumstances. During his personal search 20 grams of brown sugar like substance was recovered from his possession. During initial questioning, Waseem disclosed that he was contacted by some addicts of Kupwara to deliver the drugs to them”, the statement reads.

“FIR No.56/2022 under section 8/20 NDPS Act and FIR No.57/2022 under section 8/21 NDPS Act stand registered in PS Kupwara against both the peddlers. Some more arrests cannot be ruled out in these cases in the coming days”, it reads.

“Another peddler Hilal Rashid Khan son of Abdul Rashid Khan a resident of Maidanpora Lolab was today detained under PSA by Kupwara Police after obtaining his detention warrants from competent authority. He was found involved in peddling of narcotics and also some criminal cases in the jurisdiction of Police Station Lalpora Kupwara and has created an atmosphere of terror and fear among general public of the area”, maintains the statement.

“Kupwara Police appeals the general public to cooperate in sharing the information related to drug abuse so that appropriate steps can be initiated and a drug free environment is created”, it concludes. (GNS)
