CASO Launched in Tujar Shareef Sopore

August 18 A CASO has been launched in Tujar Shareef area of Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla District on Saturday afternoon Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 22 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and 179 BN CRPF laid down the Search operation jointly. "The Operation was launched after troopers received a specific input about Militant movement in the area," Sources said. The Search operation was going on when this report was filed.

Three Punjab Residents Arrested with 13 Kilo Fukki

August 18 The Jammu Kashmir Police led by SHO Lahkanpur Susheel Sharma acting on a tip off established special checkpoint at NHW Lakhanpur and seized one Innova car bearing registration no. PB08D-8195 and recovered 13.5 kilograms of Poppy Straw from the car which was on way from Kashmir to Punjab. Three persons were also travelling in the car and police arrested all of them and registered a case FIR No 84/18 U/s 8/15 NDPS Act against them. They were identified as Inderjeet Singh (driver) S/o Mohinder Singh, Baljeet Kumar S/o Paras Ram and Gurjeet Singh S/o Harbans Singh.

Dead Body of 20 year old Youth Found in Jhelum

August 18 The dead body of a youth from Budgam who had drowned in Jhelum river was retrieved by SDRF men on Saturday afternoon. Officials said that Shabir's dead body was recovered post two days on Saturday in jhelum at Nawa Kadal in Srinagar. Shabir Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Rahman Sheikh, a resident of Sitaharan Khag area of Budgam who was 20 years old and working as a labourer had drowned in Jhelum at Nawakadal Srinagar.

Kerala Floods- Death Toll Rises to 173, Thousands, 2 Lakh Displaced

August 18 The incessant rains and floods continued to wreak havoc in Kerala with the death toll due to the worst flooding in nearly a century crossing 170, with thousands missing. Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala continued to be the worst affected in the last 24 hours as thousands of people are trapped in their homes in the towns of Ranni, Aranmula and Kozhencherry. The Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan addressing Media on Friday evening said that the flood situation in the state continues to be serious even as intense rescue operations have managed to take over 80,000 people to safety. A Night of Fear in Kulgam Village

August 18 Shah Shahid The Locals of the Bhan area in Quimoh tehsil of South Kashmir's Kulgam District have accused the Indian Army of committing excesses against the local populace of the area. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the locals said that the forces barged into the village after a minor stone throwing incident nearby and smashed everything that met their eye. "Four Load carriers, Two Tractors, Four Cars, One passenger bus, one JCB was damaged in the action of the forces before they started smashing the window panes of at least a fifty houses," a Local Shahid Ahmed told The Kashmiriyat. Nocturnal Raids Continue in South Kashmir- At least Five Arrested

August 18 The Government forces raided the Walerhama Locality in Pahalgam and Kanjullar Locality in Shopian area of South Kashmir's and arrested youths during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that at least four youths have been arrested in the Kanjkulla locality when forces raided the Village around 1130 in the night while one youth was picked up during a raid in Walerhama Pahalgam. They four were detained in  Kanjjular when the Forces including Jammu Kashmir Police barged inside the houses of the youth and took them into detention. A Police official while speaking to The Kashmiriyat confirmed the arrests.

CASO Launched in Pulwama Area

August 18 A Cordon and Search Operation has been launched in the Bamnoo area of Achgazoo in South Kashmir's Pulwama District on Saturday morning. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Government Forces including RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a joint Anti Militancy operation in the area following specific input about Militant presence in the Bamnoo area. Locals said that a heavy contingent of Forces have reached the area and are conducting a search operation in the area. The search operation was going on when this report was filed.

Jammu Kashmir Police Arrests three Drug Peddlers in Sopore

August 18 The Police Station Sopore received an information regarding the movement of drug peddlers in Sopore on Friday after which a Naka was laid by Station House Officer, Police Station Sopore at Batpora Crossing road. During the checking, Three persons were intercepted and during checking 31 bottles of SYSCODINE, ONEREX and 104 Capsules of SPASMOPROXVYON PLUS were recovered from their possession. The three were soon detained and identified as Aamir Akbar Mir, a resident of Mumkak Sopore, Taufeeq Ahmad Lone resident of Khamvyar Pattan and Tauqeed Ahmad, a resident of Khamvyar Pattan. The Jammu Kashmir Police has registered a Case in this regard under the FIR No. 227/2018 U/S 8/22  NDPS Act  and further investigation has been taken up.

Swami Agnivesh Assaulted on way to Pay tributes to Vajpayee

August 18 Prominent Social activist Swami Agnivesh was abused and thrashed outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi when was on way to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away yesterday (friday). Soon after Swani Agnivesh went to the BJP office, a group of persons started raising slogans against him, asking him to go back. Soon he was chased by a group of people, believed to be Bharatiya Janata Party workers, who later assaulted him. Delhi Police then whisked away Agnivesh to safety in a van.

Unscheduled Water Supply Irks Palpora Residents in Islamabad (Anantnag)

August 18 Sheikh Nadeem/ Beig Fayaz The Residents of Palpora in Dialgam belt of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) are up in arms against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department against the unscheduled water supply in their area. Locals from Palpora while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that they are facing water crisis from the past two weeks and nobody seems to be concerned. The residents demanded an immediate end to the problems they face threatening that they would intensify their protests if the issues are not resolved.
