Ashraf Sehrai’s Sons Arrested, Not Booked under PSA: Says Police

Jammu Kashmir Police Sunday said that both sons of deceased Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chief Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and four others have been arrested for raising anti-national slogans during Sehrai’s funeral at Tikkipora, Kupwara. “Both sons of Late Sehrai & 4 others have been #arrested for raising #antinational slogans during the funeral. But, they haven’t been booked under PSA. Plz don’t spread #rumour,” Jammu and Kashmir police tweeted. Earlier, there were media reports that Sehrai’s sons have been slapped with PSA. Police, however, clarified that the duo hasn’t been booked under PSA.

Suspected militants on Sunday triggered an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) in the Sugan area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. An official said that that a low-intensity IED was triggered near an army vehicle in Sugan area of Shopian. He said that the blast took place far from the vehicle and there was no damage reported in this incident besides that there were no injuries reported. He added that more reinforcement has been rushed to the spot and the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.

The Jammu Kashmir police on Saturday evening arrested two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, who died on 5 May in a hospital during his imprisonment under Public Safety Act (PSA). The Tehreek-i-Hurriyat Chairman, Sehrai, passed away at the Government Medical College in Jammu, where he was brought from a Jammu jail. The family sources said that the duo was arrested from their residence at Bulbulbagh area of Barzulla, in Srinagar.
