Hurriyat Leader Shabir Shah Denied Bail by Delhi Court

A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed the bail application of Kashmiri separatist leader Shabbir Shah in a money laundering case related to alleged terror funding in Kashmir, saying the prosecution couldn’t be blamed for delay on account of Covid-19. Special Judge Dharmender Rana, meanwhile, directed the Enforcement Directorate to expedite the trial. “The trial would have been swiftly concluded by now but because of the pandemic and the suspended functioning of the courts, the trial is taking some time. Prosecution cannot be blamed for delay on account of such catastrophe,” the judge said. Akhil Gogoi, the MLA from Assam who was jailed since December 2019 under charges in two cases related to the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act violence in Assam in December 2019 has been freed after he was acquitted of the second case on Thursday. President of the Raijor Dal, Gogoi, was discharged in the first case on June 25. And on Thursday, he was acquitted of the charges by a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He had also spent last few months in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital due to his weakened health. Three militants affiliated with LeT and a solider were killed in an encounter between government forces and militants in Hanjin village of Rajpora hamlet in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Friday. A senior police officer told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that three unidentified militants have been killed whose identification is being ascertained while as operation is on in the area. They said that as the forces reached the spot where the Militants were suspected to be holed up, the militants opened fire. The forces retaliated, according to reports. During the exchange of gunfire, one Army man and one Militant has been killed. The deceased Army man has been identified as Hawaldar Kashi of 44 RR.
