PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti alleged on Wednesday that the BJP is promoting ''The Kashmir Files'', a film on the plight of displaced Kashmiri Hindus, to incite people on religious lines and called for the setting up of a panel to probe the circumstances that led to the exodus of Pandits from the valley. Her demand came a day after National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah also called for setting up a panel to investigate the killings and the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley. A youth was arrested with a grenade during a naka checking in Bemina area of summer-capital Srinagar on Wednesday evening, police said. A police officer told GNS that one Zubair Altaf Shiekh son of Mohammad Altaf Shiekh, a resident of 90 Feet Soura Srinagar on way towards Hamandia Colony was intercepted by a naka party at Bemina Chowk. “During his frisking, the police party recovered one Chinese hand grenade from his possession”, he said, adding, "the accused was instantly arrested and a case vide FIR number 15/22 u/s 7/25, 13 of ULA registered in this regard." Umar Khalid's bail plea has been deferred by the court on Wednesday in a case related to February 2020 sectarian riots in northeast Delhi. The bail plea of Umar Khalid, a former student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), named as the mastermind behind the riots was earlier heard on Monday and was then set for March 23 at 4 p.m. On March 3, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) of Karkar Duma Court Amitabh Rawat had reserved his judgment in the matter. An army man shot himself dead with his service rifle in Uri area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday afternoon, official sources said. Identifying the deceased army man as one Vikram Kumar Yadav (22) of Unit 21 Kumaon, they told that the incident took place at Mike post in Uri sector along LoC. "The army man was shifted to Brigade hospital Uri and later referred to SDH Uri for legal formalities", they further said.
