College student electrocuted to death while playing cricket in Anantnag

A 20-year-old youth died of electrocution while playing cricket in the Durgund area of Sirigufwara in south Kashmir's Anantnag disrict. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a Umer Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Sirigufwara, who was a student of the second year at Degree college Bijbehara was electrocuted while playing a cricket match in Anantnag area on Wednesday morning. His friends said that Shahid was fielding when the ball was hit for a boundary and he went to collect the ball. "He got in touch with an electric wire and fell unconscious," they said. He was rushed to the District hospital of Anantnag, however, upon his arrival at the hospital he was declared 'brought dead' by the doctors, officials said.

In a bid to eradicate drug menace from the society, the divisional administration Kashmir on Wednesday said that six drugs counselling centres have been made available in different districts. Amid predictions for scattered light rain/snow and thundershowers in next 24 hours, night temperature increased at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, recorded a low of 7.2°C against last night’s 6.9°C. The temperature was 2.2°C above normal for Srinagar during this time of the year. Qazigund recorded a low of 5.4°C against 6.0°C on the previous night. Danishwar Hameed A 34-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious conditions at his relative's home in the Damhal Hanjipora area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday morning, officials said. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a youth identified as Ashiq Hussain Hajam, son of Abdul Ahad Hajam of Kujjar Frisal was found dead at the house of his relative in Yarikah Kulgam. “The youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the house of Mushtaq Ahmad Hajam, son of Ghulam Ahad Hajam of Yarikah," he said.
